Stephanie Loria, C’11, receives Ph.D. from American Museum of Natural History

AMNH graduation Oct. 2016

Stephanie Loria, C’11, an ecology and biodiversity major at Sewanee, is one of five Ph.D. recipients of the prestigious Richard Gilder Graduate School at the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) in New York City. Loria graduated in October during a ceremony under the Museum’s iconic blue whale (see photo, right).

The AMNH is the only American museum with the authority to grant a Ph.D. in comparative biology. Loria investigated scorpions across numerous Southeast Asian countries, gaining novel insights into the vision system of scorpions. She is now a postdoctoral fellow at the California Academy of Sciences.
