Poet Javier Zamora to Speak

Javier Zamora came to the U.S when he was 9 years old from El Salvador, escaping civil war. Today, he is a popular poet and Harvard fellow who writes about immigration and his experience crossing the border and life as an immigrant. He will recite his poetry in Sewanee on April 5th @ 4:30 PM at the Mary Sue Cushman Room at the Wick. This event is sponsored by the Writing House, Lecture's Committee, Community Engagement House, Spanish Department, English Department, International & Global Studies.

ACS Meets to Plan Summer Program in Russia

On March 17-19, Dr. Ladygina and Dr. Preslar hosted an ACS workshop at Sewanee sponsored by the Associated Colleges of the South. Dr. Ladygina and Dr. Preslar welcomed to campus colleagues from Davidson College, Rhodes College, and University of Richmond to design a collaborative summer program in Russia that would extend the benefits of Sewanee’s long-standing Summer-in-Russia Program to students and faculty from other ACS institutions.

Ladygina and Skomp Participate in SCSS Conference

On March 14-17, Dr. Skomp and Dr. Ladygina attended the annual gathering of the Southern Conference of the American Association of the Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies. As the president of the SCSS, Dr. Skomp presided over several committees and working groups and chaired a panel on contemporary Russian women writers. Dr. Ladygina delivered a paper titled “Toil on Trial: A New Reading of Ol’ha KoBylianska’s 1902 novel The Earth.” The conference took place in Mobile, Al.

Maslenitsa

We are hosting Maslenitsa at the Russian House on Sunday (March 31st) at 4 pm.
