Suggestions and Tips from Parents

We asked parents of last year's graduates to share with us information they would have liked to have had.  Now we want to share those tips with you.

"Rest up now!!!!!!!! It was wonderful. We are already missing Sewanee and all the wonderful staff and faculty members who watched over our son and advised us".

"P
lan to get in line early (6:30 a.m) and bring chairs".

"
You might want to make people aware that it can be quite cool (i.e., downright COLD!) that time of the year there at Sewanee. It's not that big of a deal for men, but for women with summer dresses and sandals, it can be a challenge if you don't bring along sweaters or light jackets".

"Attending the parties that were given was fun too and most parents do not realize they are invited as well as the graduates.  We probably attended 4 - 6 parties each day".

"I do think people should be warned ahead of time that they will need to stand in line to get a decent seat at the graduation. Also, I think it would be helpful to women to know what kind of shoes they need to bring for the entire time. I brought five pair and when I wore my heels, I got stuck in the lawn! "

"The Baccalaureate service on Saturday was beautiful.  Some other families didn't know about it and regretted missing it."

"I really admired the way Sewanee treated the people that viewed the services from McGlurg. The other member of my family were able to walk with the Graduate on the way to receiving their degrees. Thank you for allowing them to participate, even though they could not sit in the Chapel".

"Although I was initially doubtful about allowing family members to walk with the graduate, I was impressed with how smoothly it was accomplished. Even with our positions near the front and on the same side that the graduate and family members were entering, it was not distracting. Allowing family members to do this in future years would be one thing I would not change".

"Get to the chapel early to stand in line to get a good seat.  Juice and coffee is available while you wait and you get to meet other parents while you wait".
