Sewanee Welcomes Dr. Alessia Martini

Alessia Martini

Sewanee is happy to welcome our new Italian professor, Alessia Martini. Alessia Martini is originally from Italy. Before moving to the US, she taught Italian as a foreign language at different levels, both in Italy and abroad (India and Albania). She specializes in 19th and 20th century Italian literature and culture, Italian cinema, and Italian American studies, with a particular focus on theories of space and place, and the “American Myth” in Italian culture. She is a doctoral candidate at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she will soon be defending her dissertation titled “Modern Trajectories: American Urban Space in Italian Travel Narrative of the 1920s-30s.”
