All three members of the German Department: Richard Apgar, Liesl Allingham, and Ariana Orozco, along with retired German professor, Reinhard Zachau attended the 42nd Annual Conference of the German Studies Association, which met in Pittsburgh, PA the weekend of September 27-30, 2018.  Dr. Allingham co-organized a seminar (with Stefanie Ohnesorge from UT Knoxville) entitled "Mapping Identities through Mobilities." Richard Apgar was one of 18 participants, and he presented a paper entitled "Walking to New Worlds: Pedagogical Travels and a Pedagogy of Travel." Ariana Orozco participated in the "Teaching German History in the 21st Century" Seminar, where she workshopped her syllabus for German Culture and Civilization: From the Romans to World War I. She also moderated the panel "Comics Studies: Graphic German Medicine".  Seminars meet for three consecutive days and are a much more intense conversation around a specific topic.
