Prof. Engel presents at the 8th Annual Reformation Conference

Dr. Bill Engel represented Sewanee at both the Eighth Annual Reformation Conference at the University of Warsaw, May 24-26, 2018, with a paper on "John Day and the Making of a Protestant Memory Art; and also at the International Meeting of the Poe and Hawthorne Societies in Kyoto, Japan, June 21-24, with a paper on "Poe Reads Montaigne" and chaired the roundtable discussion and book launch for The Oxford Handbook to Edgar Allan Poe which includes his chapter on "Poe's Cultural Inheritance."

With the assistance of George Core, Bill currently is editing a special issue of the South Atlantic Review on "Memory and Forgetting in Early Modern Literary Culture" including his essay "Tracing the Memory Arts in The Table of Cebes and Spenser’s Faerie Queene.”
