English Majors Among First Sewanee Group to Present Papers at National Conference

Rachel Harris and Toby Hickson will share their work at the NCUR Convention in Lexington, KY, hosted by the University of Kentucky, in April of this year.  Rachel Harris's essay, "Signora Neroni’s Restoration of Order in Barchester Towers," explores a hitherto unnoticed relationship between gender, ethics, and social order in Trollope’s novel. In "Gossip and Idle Chatter in Middlemarch," Toby Hickson argues for the indispensability of these phenomena to the novel’s narrative structure and character development.  Original versions of both papers were written for Professor Lewin’s English 374 in Easter Term 2013.  Six other Sewanee students will also present and the occasion will mark Sewanee’s first presence at this conference.
